A Delta Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N378DA performing flight DL-499 (dep Jun 18th) from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), was enroute at FL390 over the Atlantic Ocean about 380nm southwest of Bermuda (Bermuda) when the crew reported a hydraulic problem and set course to divert to Bermuda stating it was not an emergency situation. While diverting the crew consulted with dispatch and subsequently decided to divert to Atlanta,GA (USA), turned around and landed safely in Atlanta about 2:45 hours after reporting the problem.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration N37700 departed Atlanta 90 minutes after landing of N378DA and reached Santo Domingo with a delay of 4.5 hours.
