A United Boeing 757-200, registration N33132 performing flight UA-160 from Newark,NJ (USA) to Newcastle,EN (UK) with 90 people on board, was climbing out of Newark when the crew declared "emergency, no rush" reporting they had a "left hydraulic loss". The aircraft burned off fuel and returned to Newark but went around on the first approach to runway 22R reporting they were still overweight, entered another hold at 3000 feet and landed safely on Newark's runway 22R about 100 minutes after departure and about 35 minutes after aborting the first approach.

A passenger reported they had already boarded an aircraft when the aircraft developed an APU fault. Passengers were invited to disembark and board a replacement aircraft. Shortly after takeoff the aircraft developed a hydraulic fault and returned to Newark for an emergency landing, went around on the first approach. The passengers were initially rebooked onto the next day's flight UA-160 but then distributed onto other flights.
