An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N372AA performing flight AA-5 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Honolulu,HI (USA) with 212 passengers and 10 crew, was enroute at FL300 about 20nm north of Roswell,NM (USA) when the crew descended the aircraft to FL260 and continued in the general direction of Hawaii. About 110nm east of Los Angeles, CA the crew set course to divert to Los Angeles and landed safely in Los Angeles about 25 minutes after leaving FL260.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 2 hours and continued to Honolulu, where the aircraft arrived safely with a delay of 3:20 hours.

The airline reported three of six lavatories ceased working enroute.
