An Alitalia Airbus A319-100, registration EI-IMT performing flight AZ-2016 from Rome Fiumicino to Milan Linate (Italy) with 88 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Fiumicino's runway 25 when the crew stopped the climb at 1500 feet reporting a bird strike and returned to Rome for a safe landing on Fiumicino's runway 16R about 13 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled.

The airline confirmed a bird strike prompted the return, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
