A THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration TC-JRS performing flight TK-1769 from Istanbul (Turkey) to Prague (Czech Republic) with 117 passengers and 8 crew, was enroute at FL340 about 80nm north of Sofia (Bulgaria) when the crew reported smoke in the cockpit and decided to divert to Sofia. The crew reported they had dry ice in the forward cabin, a smoke detector had gone off and requested an ILS approach to runway 27. The aircraft landed safely on Sofia's runway 27 about 22 minutes after leaving FL340. Attending emergency services did not find any trace of fire, heat or smoke.

Examination of the smoke detector identified the indication had been false.

The aircraft was able to depart Sofia after about 130 minutes on the ground and reached Prague with a delay of 2:50 hours.
