An Easyjet Airbus A320-200, registration G-EZWO performing flight U2-8840 from Antalya (Turkey) to London Gatwick,EN (UK), was enroute at FL340 about 70nm southeast of Istanbul (Turkey) when the crew reported a burning smell in the cockpit and decided to divert to Istanbul's Ataturk Airport for a safe landing on runway 05 about 25 minutes later. The crew taxied the aircraft to the apron where the passengers disembarked normally.

The passengers were taken to hotels.

The occurrence aircraft was able to depart Istanbul as flight U2-9840 the following day about 17 hours after landing and is estimated to reach London with a delay of about 17:15 hours.
