The airline reported the outer pane of the windshield cracked prompting the crew to divert to San Antonio as a precaution. A replacement aircraft and crew was dispatched from Dallas to San Antonio to continue the flight, however, during preflight preparations (refueling, loading, boarding) the flight crew timed out and was not permitted to depart for the flight. The passengers therefore had to be taken to hotels.
