An Amaszonas Canadair CRJ-200, flight Z8-170 from Cochabamba to Santa Cruz (Bolivia), was in the initial climb out of Cochabamba when the crew selected the gear up but only got to hear a grinding noise in response. The crew stopped the climb and returned to Cochabamba for a safe landing about 20 minutes after departure.

The airport reported the aircraft received maintenance and departed again about 2 hours after landing.

The aircraft however produced grinding noises again when the gear was selected up prompting the crew to return to Cochabamba a second time.

The flight was subsequently cancelled. The passengers were compensated.

The airline confirmed a technical problem required unscheduled maintenance.
