A Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 717-200, registration N484HA performing flight HA-118 from Honolulu,HI to Kailua-Kona,HI (USA) with 73 passengers and 5 crew, was climbing out of Honolulu when the crew stopped the climb at FL190 reporting they needed to shut the left hand engine (BR715) down. The aircraft diverted to Kahului,HI (USA) for a safe landing on runway 02 and stopped on the runway requesting emergency service to check the left engine.

Emergency services reported they foamed the left hand engine, there was smoke but no visible fire. The aircraft subsequently taxied to the apron on own power.
