A S7 Sibir Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration VP-BNG performing flight S7-178 from Novosibirsk to Moscow Domodedovo (Russia) with 101 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL360 about 330nm west of Novosibirsk when the crew decided to return to Novosibirsk due to strange knocking metallic sounds about mid cabin. The aircraft landed safely back in Novosibirsk about 100 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration VQ-BRD reached Moscow with a delay of 3 hours.

Novosibirsk's Transport Prosecution Office opened an investigation into the occurrence and reported a "Globus Airlines" Boeing 737-800 operated the flight on behalf of S7.

VP-BNG is owned and operated by S7 Sibir Airlines, however, has been leased out to Globus Airlines.
