An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N957AN performing flight AA-1498 from Santa Ana,CA to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) with 160 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL350 about 100nm southsouthwest of Amarillo,TX when the crew reported an engine (CFM56) was out and decided to divert to Amarillo. On approach to Amarillo the crew reported the engine had suffered compressor stalls but was now behaving itsself, the crew however was planning for single engine procedures. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Amarillo's runway 22 about 20 minutes after leaving FL350. Emergency services reported nothing abnormal visible from the right hand engine, the aircraft taxied to the apron.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration N818NN reached Dallas Ft. Worth with a delay of 3:20 hours.
