A Swiss Airbus A340-300, registration HB-JME performing flight LX-160 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Tokyo Narita (Japan) with 212 people on board, was enroute at FL310 just over Minsk (Belarus) when the crew decided to return to Zurich due to a problem with one of the engine's (CFM56) full authority digital engine control (FADEC) computer. The aircraft climbed to FL320 for the way back and landed safely back in Zurich about two hours later.

A replacement Airbus A340-300 registration HB-JMM is estimated to reach Tokyo with a delay of 8 hours.

The airline reported that all engines continued to work normally and the aircraft could have continued to Tokyo, however, the aircraft would have needed to remain on the ground until spare parts, not available in Tokyo, had been transported to Japan.
