A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-300, registration N370SW performing flight WN-4012 from Austin,TX to El Paso,TX (USA), was descending towards El Paso when approach control assigned runway 26L for landing. The aircraft was vectored for a visual approach to runway 26L, handed off to tower who cleared the aircraft to land on runway 26L. The aircraft landed on runway 26L at 15:56L (21:56Z).

The FAA reported that runway 26L had been closed at 07:00L until 19:00L for construction work, all related notifications and NOTAMs had been transmitted to the airlines. The aircraft landed without incident, there were no workers or equipment on the runway at the time of the landing. The FAA is investigating why ATC vectored the aircraft to and cleared to land on runway 26L.

Workers reported they detected the aircraft just in time to flee off the runway, it was a close call.
