A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-EVB performing flight FR-8855 from Alghero to Rome Ciampino (Italy), was accelerating for takeoff from Alghero's runway 02 when the crew rejected takeoff at low speed after an engine (CFM56) ingested a bird. The aircraft slowed safely and stopped on the runway.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration EI-DAE reached Rome with a delay of 3.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft was able to resume service the next day about 18 hours after aborting takeoff.

Local media report about evenly split the engine ingested a gull or a heron.
