A Shanghai Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration B-5393 performing flight FM-801 from Shanghai Pudong (China) to Taipei Songshan (Taiwan), was climbing through FL230 out of Shanghai's Pudong Airport when the crew stopped the climb due to a cracked windshield, descended the aircraft to FL200 and decided to return to Shanghai for a safe landing on Pudong Airport.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration B-1721 reached Taipei with a delay of 3.5 hours.
