A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-EKZ performing flight FR-8321 from London Stansted,EN (UK) to Valencia,SP (Spain), was enroute at FL370 about 240nm north of Barcelona,SP (Spain) still in French Airspace when a cockpit fire extinguisher discharged uncommandedly prompting the crew to don their oxygen masks, rapidly descend to FL150 and divert to Barcelona. ATC Barcelona offered runway 02 (winds reports from 030 degrees at 10 knots) or 07L, the crew opted for runway 07L. The aircraft landed safely on runway 07L about 45 minutes after leaving FL370.

The airline confirmed a minor fault with a cockpit fire extinguisher, the crew diverted to Barcelona as precaution where a maintenance engineer replaced the extinguisher and returned the aircraft to service.

The occurrence aircraft was able to depart Barcelona as flight FR-832 about 2:15 hours after landing and reached Valencia with a delay of 2:40 hours.
