A Lufthansa Airbus A321-200, registration D-AISL performing flight LH-1307 from Beirut (Lebanon) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany) with 144 passengers and 6 crew, departed Beirut's runway 21 but flew through a flock of birds and ingested a number of birds into the left hand engine (V2533). The crew stopped the climb at 2500 feet, needed to shut the engine down and returned to Beirut for a safe landing on runway 16 about 16 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

The airline reported the engine received substantial damage when the jet flew through a flock of birds, the aircraft returned to Beirut safely. The passengers were rebooked.
