A Skywest Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N492SW performing flight OO-2891/AA-2891 from Los Angeles,CA to San Jose,CA (USA), departed Los Angeles' runway 24L and was climbing to cruise level when the crew was notified that a runway inspection had found tyre debris that was identified to originate from their aircraft. The crew stopped the climb at FL260 and returned to Los Angeles, performed a low approach to runway 24R to have the gear inspected from the ground with focus on the nose gear. Following the overflight tower reported that the nose gear appeared down but both wheels appeared to be bare of rubber. The aircraft climbed back to 9000 feet and entered a hold before commencing their approach to runway 25R, where the aircraft landed about 25 minutes after the low approach.

The aircraft was towed off the runway about 15 minutes after landing and the runway returned to service (runway 25L is currently closed for a month for maintenance).

The flight and the return flight were cancelled.
