A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration 9V-SWI performing flight SQ-228 from Melbourne,VI (Australia) to Singapore (Singapore), was enroute at FL320 about 200nm north of Melbourne when the crew decided to return to Melbourne telling passengers that a generator (engines GE90) had failed. The aircraft dumped fuel on the way back and landed safely about 45 minutes after turning around.

The aircraft was able to depart again after about 4 hours on the ground and reached Singapore with a delay of 5 hours.
