An Emirates Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration A6-EWB performing flight EK-229 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Seattle,WA (USA), was enroute near Tehran (Iran) when a male passenger (52) suffered symptoms of a heart attack prompting the crew to divert to Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport for a safe landing. The patient was taken to a hospital.

The aircraft reached Seattle with a delay of 2.5 hours as a result.

Iranian Authorities reported the US citizen was taken to a hospital and is on the way to recovery.

The airline confirmed a diversion to Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport due to a medical emergency.
