An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N386AA performing flight AA-916 from Bogota (Colombia) to Miami,FL (USA) with 197 passengers and 9 crew, was enroute at FL360 about 70nm north of Panama City when the crew initiated an emergency descent to 11000 feet levelling off at 11,000 feet about 8 minutes later (average rate of descent 3100fpm). The crew continued in the general direction of Miami but diverted to Kingston (Jamaica) for a safe landing.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration N387AM reached Miami with a delay of 8 hours.

A passenger reported they became aware of something being amiss when the aircraft began to descend rapidly. About 10-15 minutes later the captain announced they were having a problem and were diverting to Kingston.

The airline reported the aircraft experienced a pressurization issue.
