A Singapore Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration 9V-SSD performing flight SQ-615 (dep Dec 22nd) from Osaka (Japan) to Singapore (Singapore) with 268 passengers and 13 crew, was enroute at FL390 over the South China Sea about 200nm north of Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei) at approximately 03:10L (19:10Z Dec 22nd) when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence causing a loss of about 300 feet of altitude and injuries to 14 occupants. The aircraft returned from FL387 to FL390 and continued to Singapore for a safe landing about two hours later. 13 occupants with minor injuries, mainly bruises and cuts to heads, hands, arms and legs were taken to one hospital but discharged shortly afterwards, a passenger with a previous neck injury and more additional head and neck injuries was taken to another hospital and is still in hospital care.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Singapore 24 hours after landing.
