An Air Berlin Airbus A319-100, registration D-ABGN performing flight AB-6478 from Berlin Tegel to Saarbruecken (Germany), was on approach to Saarbruecken's runway 27 when an engine (CFM56) ingested a bird. The crew continued for a safe landing.

The return flight AB-6483 had to be cancelled however.

On Nov 8th 2014 The Aviation Herald received information that following the landing of the A319 other arriving aircraft were instructed to go around, a runway inspection revealed considerable bird debris on the runway, which was closed for about 25 minutes until the debris had been removed. The bird went through the bypass of the engine causing only minor damage to the engine.
