An Edelweiss Airbus A320-200 on behalf of Swiss European Airlines, registration HB-IJV performing flight LX-1026 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Dusseldorf (Germany), was climbing out of Zurich when the aircraft received a lightning strike, the crew described dazzling white colour followed by loud thunder. The crew continued the flight to Dusseldorf.

A post flight inspection found lightning entry damage, black traces, at the nose of the aircraft but no exit points. The aircraft was unable to depart for the return flight LX-1027 which needed to be cancelled.

On Oct 21st the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo moved from the British Islands across Europe in a large front reaching Austria in the evening with violent thunderstorms and gusting windspeeds around 40 knots on the ground.
