An Air India Boeing 787-800, registration VT-ANQ performing flight AI-123 from Delhi (India) to Rome (Italy), was enroute at FL400 flying across Albania and the Adriatic Sea into Italy near Bari without communication and without squawking loss of communication. When the aircraft entered Italian Airspace Italy's Air Force deployed two Eurofighter aircraft to identify the Dreamliner and accompany the aircraft to its landing at Rome's Fiumicino Airport.

Italy's Air Force reported that the aircraft entered Italian Airspace without communication and without clearance prompting two Eurofighters to intercept the Boeing 787-800. The intercepting aircraft performed a subsonic flight at FL260 to the meeting point where the Dreamliner was identified without the intercepting aircraft revealing themselves and without causing any concerns to the passengers of the Dreamliner. After accompanying the Dreamliner to about 30km from Fiumicino Airport the Eurofighters were called back to base.
