PIA AT42 at Skardu on Sep 15th 2014, engine shut down in flight

A PIA Pakistan International Airlines Avions de Transport Regional ATR-42-500, registration AP-BHO performing flight PK-452 from Skardu to Islamabad (Pakistan) with 60 people on board, was climbing through 14,000 feet out of Skardu when the left hand engine (PW127E) emitted a loud bang and flamed out. The crew shut the engine down and returned to Skardu for a safe landing.

The French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin that the French BEA (!) is investigating the occurrence rated an incident.

The engine suffered a compressor failure and was replaced.
