A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration 9M-MXI performing flight MH-198 from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Hyderabad (India), was enroute at FL340 about 140nm northwest of Kuala Lumpur when the crew decided to return to Kuala Lumpur due to the failure of the autopilot. The aircraft descended to FL230, burned off fuel and landed safely back in Kuala Lumpur about 3 hours after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration 9M-MXD reached Hyderabad with a delay of about 14 hours.

The airline reported the aircraft returned as a precautionary measure, the passengers were taken to hotels and taken to Hyderabad the following afternoon.
