An Egypt Air Boeing 737-800, registration SU-GEE performing flight MS-969 from Mumbai (India) to Cairo (Egypt) with 118 passengers, was enroute at FL360 about 130nm eastsoutheast of Dubai (United Arab Emirates) when the flight management and guidance system (FMGS) failed causing the autopilot, engaged in LNAV and VNAV, to disconnect. The aircraft descended to FL280 out of reduced vertical separation minima (RVSM) airspace and continued the flight towards Cairo. About 15 minutes later, 30nm southeast of Dubai, the crew decided to divert to Dubai after the navigation and primary flight displays also failed and the engine parameters on the EICAS froze no longer following engine thrust changes. Using the standby instruments the crew landed the aircraft safely on Dubai's runway 30L about 20 minutes after the decision to divert.

Following repairs the aircraft was able to depart Dubai after about 8.5 hours on the ground in Dubai and reached Cairo with a delay of 9 hours.
