A TAM Linhas Aereas Airbus A320-200, registration PR-MHN performing flight JJ-3420 from Rio de Janeiro Galeao,RJ to Belem,PA (Brazil) with 126 passengers, was enroute at FL350 about 200nm southeast of Brasilia,DF (Brazil) when the crew received a lavatory fire indication and decided to divert to Brasilia. The aircraft landed safely on Brasilia's runway 11L about 40 minutes later.

The airline reported they suspect the indication followed an actual fire in the lavatory. Burnt paper was found in the trash bin of the lavatory. Police has been called in to investigate.

According to Infraero the flight is currently estimated to reach Belem with a delay of 24 hours, the airline's website shows an error message but not the status of the flight.

The incident aircraft departed Brasilia as flight JJ-3583 from Brasilia to Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP about 4 hours after landing in Brasilia.
