An Envoy Embraer ERJ-145, registration N837AE performing flight MQ-3340 from New York La Guardia,NY to Knoxville,TN (USA) with 44 passengers and 3 crew, was in the initial climb out of La Guardia's runway 31 when the crew declared emergency reporting smoke in the cabin and requested to return immediately. The aircraft was cleared for a visual approach to runway 22, landed safely on that runway about 4 minutes after departure and stopped on the runway. The occupants rapidly disembarked onto the runway and were bussed to the terminal.

The aircraft was subsequently towed to the apron.

The flight was cancelled.
