A Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-88, registration N911DE performing flight DL-2435 from Milwaukee,WI to Atlanta,GA (USA) with 112 people on board, was enroute at FL290 about 100nm northwest of Indianapolis,IN (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Indianapolis due to problems with the left hand engine (JT8D). The aircraft landed safely in Indianapolis about 25 minutes later.

A passenger reported the crew announced the left hand engine had lost power.

The airline reported a compression issue with the left hand engine.

A replacement MD-88 reached Atlanta with a delay of 5:15 hours.
