An Dniproavia Boeing 737-500 on behalf of Aerosvit, registration UR-DND performing flight VV-230 from Athens (Greece) to Kiev (Ukraine), was climbing out of Athens when the crew requested to stop the climb at FL100 advising they would return to Athens. The crew subsequently reported they had a wheel bay fire indication and requested to hold for about one hour to burn off fuel causing the completely astonished controller to query whether they really meant to hold for an hour. The aircraft was cleared to enter the holding pattern at KRO at FL100. After about 15 minutes the aircraft departed the holding pattern and landed safely on Athens' runway 21L about 30 minutes after departure.

The flight reached Kiev with a delay of 9 hours.

Ukraine's Ministry of Transport reported in their monthly bulletin that the indication was determined false as result of faulty work on the temperature sensor. The high ambient temperatures at Athens together with the hot brakes after landing followed by short ground time in Athens disallowing sufficient cooling of the brakes thus caused the temperature sensor to trigger an alert.
