A British Airways Airbus A320-200, registration G-EUUW performing flight BA-718 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Zurich (Switzerland) with 125 people on board, was climbing out of Heathrow when the crew stopped the climb at about FL105, descended to FL080 and entered a hold. The crew subsequently initiated another climb to continue the flight but again aborted the climb at FL120 reporting fumes on board. The aircraft returned to Heathrow Airport for a safe landing on runway 27R about 45 minutes after departure.

The rotation BA-718/719 was cancelled.

The French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin that the AAIB rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation.
