A Sunwing Boeing 737-800, registration C-GDZE performing flight WG-559 from Edmonton,AB (Canada) to Puerto Vallarta (Mexico) with 181 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL330 about 120nm northnorthwest of Helena,MT (USA) and about 45nm east of Glacier Park,MT when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence and an altitude deviation causing minor injuries to two flight attendants. The aircraft diverted to Helena for a safe landing about 25 minutes later.

Passengers reported the flight attendants were just doing in flight passenger service, the fasten seat belt signs were illuminated, when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence for about 90 seconds causing a cut on the heads of one flight attendant, the other flight attendant fell to the floor.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration C-FTOH positioned from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Helena and resumed the flight reaching Puerto Vallarta with a delay of 11 hours.
