A Delta Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N393DA performing flight DL-309 from Minneapolis,MN (USA) to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), was climbing out of Minneapolis' runway 30L when a bird impacted the right hand wing of the aircraft. After the crew contacted departure the departure controller reported to the crew that ground personnel had observed a number of large birds during departure which hit the aircraft. The crew decided to stop the climb at 8000 feet and returned to Minneapolis for a safe landing about 40 minutes after departure.

The FAA reported the aircraft received damage to a wing as result of a bird strike.
