A SA Express de Havilland Dash 8-400 on behalf of South African Airways, registration ZS-YBP performing flight XZ-1105/SA-1105 from Johannesburg to Kimberley (South Africa), accelerated for takeoff from runway 03L when the left hand engine surged emitting bangs and streaks of flames prompting the crew to reject takeoff. The aircraft came to a stop about 500 meters short of the runway end and was evacuated.

A replacement Dash 8-400 reached Kimberley with a delay of 4 hours.
