A Lufthansa Airbus A340-600, registration D-AIHE performing flight LH-713 from Seoul (South Korea) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was climbing through FL230 when the crew stopped the climb and decided to return to Seoul, where the aircraft entered a hold at 7000 feet and landed safely about 60 minutes after stopping the climb.

The flight was cancelled.

A listener on frequency said the crew reported flight control problems to ATC.

A passenger reported he observed nothing unusual until the captain announced the main flight computers were down. Later the captain announced they needed to check all systems, subsequently the gear and flaps were operated. The passenger asked for a glass of champagne while in the hold dumping fuel, cabin crew explained everybody needed to stay alert and offered a glass of water only. After landing the captain stated that all computers were down, a replacement aircraft would need to perform the flight. The passenger commented "A big thumb up and bravo to the Capt and F.O. and the crew...very professional and skilled".
