An Atlas Air Boeing 747-400 freighter, registration N419MC performing flight 5Y-2884 from Dover-Cheswold,DE (USA) to Frankfurt Hahn (Germany) with 7 people on board, was enroute at FL350 about 60nm southeast of New York JFK,NY (USA) when the crew needed to shut the #3 engine (CF6, inboard right) down and descended the aircraft to FL240. The crew, after consulting with dispatch, decided to divert to JFK Airport for a safe landing on runway 04L about 45 minutes later.

The aircraft was able to continue the flight the following day and reached Frankfurt with a delay of 18 hour.
