A Polar Airlines Antonov AN-24, registration RA-46834 performing flight RKA-214 from Batagay to Yakutsk (Russia) with 19 passengers and 4 crew, performed an ILS approach to and landed on Yakutsk's runway 23L at about 18:30L (08:30Z), low visibility procedures were in effect. The aircraft completed the landing roll without obvious incident.

Rosaviatsia reported however, that a later runway inspection, about 2 hours after landing, found 4 approach lights, about 170 meters prior to the runway threshold, and 2 runway threshold lights inoperative obviously as result of a contact with an arriving aircraft. An inspection of the arrived aircraft showed the Antonov's RA-46834 left main gear including hydraulic line was damaged. The commander of the aircraft (58, ATPL) had accumulated 14,400 hours total, 12,800 hours on AN-24 and 9,500 hours in command.

Rosaviatsia thundered that the incident had not been reported in violation of regulations requiring to secure evidence and report the event.

Rosaviatsia argued, that the damage to airport equipment could lead to an emergency for other departing or arriving aircraft.

The occurrence was brought to the attention of Rosaviatsia by air traffic control and the aerodrome operator. An investigation has been opened.

Rosaviatsia recommends to organize trainings with focus on optical illusions during (night) approaches and hazards of approach.
