An Egyptair Airbus A320-200, registration SU-GBG performing flight MS-835 from Cairo (Egypt) to Benghazi (Libya) with 58 people on board, was on approach to and cleared to land on Benghazi's runway 15R at about 09:45L (08:45Z) but landed on closed runway 15L instead. The aircraft burst both right hand gear tyres during roll out and came to a stop disabled on the runway.

At the time of the occurrence runway 15L/33R was NOTAMed closed due to long cracks in the runway surface, the state of the runway surface causing the burst tyres.

On Dec 10th 2013 the French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin that the aircraft landed on the closed runway of Benghazi and deflated both right hand tyres. The occurrence was rated a serious incident, Libya's Civil Aviation Authority opened an investigation.
