An American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83, registration N565AA performing flight AA-510 from Phoenix,AZ to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA), was in the initial climb out of Phoenix when the tail compartment high temperature indication illuminated prompting the crew to return to Phoenix. After working the checklists the indication extinguished. The aircraft landed safely back about 13 minutes after departure.

A replacement MD-83 reached Chicago with a delay of 6 hours.
