An American Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N609AA performing flight AA-922 from Santa Cruz (Bolivia) to Miami,FL (USA), was climbing through 1000 feet AGL out of Santa Cruz's Viru Viru International Airport runway 16 when a bird was ingested into the left hand engine (RB211) resulting in vibrations of the engine. The crew reduced the engine to idle and returned to Santa Cruz for a safe landing.

The flight is estimated to reach Miami with a delay of 31 hours.
