An F/A-18D of the Swiss Air Force (double seater) crashed during a training flight in formation near Hergiswil in the canton of Nidwalden. The aircraft impacted rocky terrain. The weather was said to be heavy clouds combined with light rain. The number of crew on board was two. The formation plane did an emergency climbout from the manoeuvre into controlled flight under IFR and returned for a safe landing to the military base in Meiringen, canton of Berne. The previous flight was conducted under VFR. At the moment, no news about the fate of the two crew has been reportd, they are still missing.
