An Aer Arann Avion de Transport Regional ATR-72-200 on behalf of Aer Lingus, registration EI-SLN performing flight RE-3252/EI-3252 from Dublin (Ireland) to Edinburgh,SC (UK), had departed Dublin's runway 10 and was already enroute in contact with Scottish Control over the Irish Sea about 25 minutes into the flight when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (PW127) down and returned to Dublin for a safe landing on runway 10 about 60 minutes after departure.

The rotation to/from Edinburgh was cancelled.

On May 28th 2012 the owner of the aircraft, ASL Aviation Group, reported that the aircraft was already operated by Aer Arann. The change of ownership from Air Contractors to ASL Aviation Group as well as the change of operator from Air Contractors to Aer Arann had not yet been updated in the Irish Aircraft Register and has now been initiated.
