An Air Mauritius Airbus A340-300, registration 3B-NAU performing flight MK-34 from Mauritius (Mauritius) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (France), was in the initial climb out of Mauritius' runway 14 when one of the engines (CFM56) emitted a loud bang and streaks of flame and needed to be shut down. The aircraft levelled off at 5000 feet, then climbed to 7000 feet to dump fuel and returned to Mauritius for a safe landing on runway 14 about 80 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A340-300 registration 3B-NBE reached Paris with a delay of 3.5 hours.

The airline confirmed technical problems, the passengers were transferred to another aircraft. The incident aircraft is being repaired.

The incident aircraft has not been seen on radar since.
