An AirTran Boeing 717-200, flight FL-743 from Fort Myers,FL to Columbus,OH (USA) with 86 passengers and 5 crew, was climbing out of Fort Myers' runway 06 when the crew reported a bird strike and stopped the climb at 4000 feet. The crew decided to enter a hold to talk to company dispatch advising they had both engines still running normally, they might need to come back as a precaution. The aircraft subsequently returned to Fort Myers, tower warning arriving and departing aircraft for birds at 200-500 feet on both arrival and departure with birdstrikes having been reported from arriving and departing traffic, and landed safely on runway 06 about 25 minutes after departure.

The incident aircraft was able to depart again and reached Columbus with a delay of 2.5 hours.

The airline reported the aircraft did suffer a bird strike on departure, however neither engine received damage, the incident aircraft was able to depart again for the flight.
