A Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-90, registration N935DN performing flight DL-2243 from New Orleans,LA to Atlanta,GA (USA) with 132 people on board, was enroute at FL310 about 120nm southsouthwest of Birmingham,AL (USA) when the crew reported smell of smoke on board and decided to divert to Birmingham for a safe landing on runway 06 about 30 minutes later. Attending emergency services found no trace of fire, heat or smoke.

The incident aircraft reached Atlanta with a delay of 11:15 hours.
