Russia's Emergency ministry initially said the commander reported the avionics had failed but later corrected to say the avionics had overheated.
Rosaviatsia later reported that the crew received an "EQUIP COOLING" indication suggesting problems with the cooling of the avionics bay. The crew worked the relevant checklists and engaged the alternate system, the indication however persistet prompting the crew to declare Mayday and divert to the nearest suitable airfield. The crew later cancelled Mayday.
