An Air Transat Airbus A310-300, registration C-GLAT performing flight TS-294 (dep Aug 21st) from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Porto (Portugal) with 249 people on board, was enroute at FL330 about 350nm northeast of St. John's,NL (Canada) when the crew received indication of a leak in the green hydraulic system. The crew worked the relevant checklists, turned around and diverted to Montreal,QC (Canada). During final approach to Montreal's runway 24R the crew received low quantity indication for the system. The aircraft landed safely about 3 hours after leaving FL330 but needed to be towed off the runway.

NAV Canada reported the crew declared emergency about 350nm northwest of St. John's reporting a hydraulic problem, the aircraft was descended to FL310 and then cleared to turn around to divert to Toronto as requested. After turning around the crew advised, the emergency had been declared as a precaution to facilitate the return to Toronto, an emergency situation no longer existed and the emergency was cancelled. The aircraft was given a direct to Toronto with an estimated time of arrival 3.5 hours after leaving FL330.

The Canadian TSB reported the aircraft subsequently diverted to Montreal. Due to the hydraulic leak nose wheel steering was no longer available, the aircraft needed to be towed off the runway.
