The airline confirmed the aircraft diverted to Athens as a precaution, the passengers were taken to hotels until their onward transport to Tel Aviv can be arranged. It appears that a passenger was smoking in a lavatory causing the diversion.
Following checks the incident aircraft was able to continue the journey and departed Athens after about 12 hours on the ground. The aircraft reached Tel Aviv with a delay of 11.5 hours.
